Lotus easy origami flower for kids12/28/2023 ![]() There are many materials whose basic properties change when they come into contact with water (think how your skin shrivels up in the bath) and wood is one of them. Paper is essentially wood pulp ground up and dried. This is a simple experiment illustrating the properties of materials. Once they are dry you can refold them and try the experiment again. My kids had a hard time keeping their hands off the flower petals as they opened but trust me the petals will open if you are patient! What’s so scientific? Absorption Place your kirigami flower in the water and watch as they begin to open up as the paper absorbs the water! The outer blossoms should open up quickly, the inner blossom may take longer to absorb the water. When the blossoms have fully opened you may carefully remove them from the water and let them dry out. You’re done! Now grab a shallow tray or bowl and add water. Steps 4, 5, & 6 Place the inner blossom in the center of the outer blossom and refold the outer blossom petals to cover the inner blossom.Refold the petals to cover the circular center. Step 1, 2, & 3 Place the center circle in the middle of your inner blossom.Step 7 Repeat for inner blossom using a 5 “ x 5” sheet of paper.Steps 4, 5, & 6 Open up the cut flower and fold the petals along the dotted lines.Step 3 Cut out the black sections of the template.Fold the two sheets according using the basic six sided base instructions above and the template as your guide. I recommend making one kirigami flower using our Kirigami Water Blossoms Template first. Several sheets of 6” x 6” lightweight paper- I recommend this lovely paper.Your six-sided base is done! This base can be folded in half again for a 12-sided shape. Apps similar to logic pro x for mac12/28/2023 The smaller Magic Keyboard With Touch ID is priced at quite a premium for the Touch ID sensor. The basic design of the two keyboards hasn’t actually changed that much, with the same slimline design and month-long battery life as their predecessors. You can use these new keyboards with older Macs that have Intel processors, but you’ll really only be able to use them as basic QWERTY keyboards for typing, as most of the new features – including the Touch ID sensor that sits in the top row of Function keys – won’t work on Intel Macs. That’s a bit of a mouthful, but Apple is making it abundantly clear that the new keyboards are specifically designed for the latest Mac models that have Apple’s home-grown M1 processors. Note there are Space Gray versions that cost more ($199/£199) so make sure you select the white models if you want to save money. For starters, these new models are officially referred to by Apple as (1) the Magic Keyboard With Touch ID For Mac Models With Apple Silicon ( $149/ £149), and (2) the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad for Mac Models with Apple Silicon ( $179/ £179). However, these newer models bring a number of new features that aren’t available on the older Magic keyboards. There’s also a larger version, simply called the MX Keys, which has a separate numeric keypad as well – and this has recently been on sale at the same price as the MX Keys Mini, although it’s not clear if that price cut will turn out to be permanent.Īt first glance, the two Magic Keyboard models launched by Apple in mid-2021 look very similar to the original models – which are still available and reviewed here as well. Logitech’s Options app also allows you to program the Function keys to perform different tasks, such as opening Mail or Safari. The top row of Function keys works automatically with the Mac, allowing you to adjust the backlight, volume and other controls. However, turning the backlight off extends that time to a full five months – far longer than the single month provided by Apple’s Magic Keyboard. The backlight does drain the keyboard’s rechargeable battery, lasting only 10 days if you have the backlight on full brightness the whole time. The keyboard has a backlight too, with a sensor that automatically activates the backlight as your hands approach the keyboard, and then turn it off after a few seconds when you move away. ![]() Available in a variety of colours, it’s heavier and sturdier than the Magic Keyboard, with firmer keys that feel more responsive when typing. The basic design of the MX Keys Mini is impressive. ![]() And, to be honest, Logitech’s years of experience with mice and keyboards really give it the edge. The latest model in the range is the new MX Keys Mini ( $99.99/ £99.99) and has a compact, low-profile design that clearly pitches it as an alternative to Apple’s own Magic Keyboard. Logitech’s Craft and Ergo K860 keyboards are both designed for specific types of users, but if you’re just looking for a good general-purpose keyboard then its MX Keys range is hard to beat. I felt like album opener “Kingdom Come” was a relatively docile song. is a release I’m very impressed with, and by the reaction Hands Like Houses have been getting, it’s not hard to see why. Elements like fatalism, politics, personal struggle join those like hyper-realism and fantasy to make a monument of thought come to life. The album is built around shared human experience, with each song having its own atmosphere and story. The band felt less restricted and pressured which has resulted in their most unique and ambitious release to date. Guitarist Alex Pearson explained that their experimentation and expansion came from being off of the road for the most time since writing their debut album Ground Dweller. I think they’ve found a nice middle ground between creative freedom and popular sonic choices. In the lead up to the release, the band’s single “Monster” has been used by the WWE on their Australian tour a very trivial fact, but a testament to the sort of recognition Hands Like Houses are (and deserve to be) receiving.Īs time has passed, the band have branched further and further into uncharted territory and on -Anon. and they’ve well and truly belted it out of the park this time. The majority of artists and bands I am listening to lately have all moved down the pop path (or have already been there). “Just by killing time, we kill ourselves (my way)” – love the stubbornness in this. The grand finale of the album flows via “Bloodlines.” The gang vocals got me once again, and the lyrics are my ultimate favourites on this one. Its chorus makes “Degrees of Separation” fitting material to be the next single, otherwise it will go down the path of underrated songs – every record ever made has at least one. The playful guitar strumming during the verses of “Momentary” and the bass line in “Motion Sickness” are something I am quite stoked about for now. It reminds us to live for the present because no matter how hard you have fought to get to somewhere, you’ve lost out on precious memories on the way.īreaking songs into pieces with each listen can lead to the discovery of great things that otherwise might have not come through. “How did we get so old and never noticed/How did we gain the world and lose the moment” – these lines from “Stillwater” have stuck with me. ![]() The diversity and genre blending abilities of the band are showcased perfectly when it comes to “Glasshouse” and “Division Symbols” – one starting with a metal breakdown – the part I really love on “Grey Havens” as well – while the other is stronger on keys yet the two songs can still live together on the same album. The song that really set my excitement towards Dissonants was “Colourblind” – it’s been one I kept going back to ever since its premiere. “Perspectives” is definitely a big favourite and something to look forward to when seeing the band live. Kicking off with “I Am” (the very song that introduced Hands Like Houses to me last year) we get punched right in the face by the burst of energy that lasts throughout the whole thing. The record has a great repertoire of catchy, anthem-worthy tracks that are also heavily guitar driven with sick drum beats and just enough touch of electronics to make it sound unique the vocals are on point also. Dissonants is the third full length from the band and it was produced by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore) once again, following his involvement on 2013’s Unimagine. Aussie rockers Hands Like Houses are releasing their long-awaited new album tomorrow, February 26. Resident and professor Clarence Glover told the Council how the Works Progress Administration described Elm Thicket in its Dallas guide as “a village of Negro residences and business enterprises in extreme North Dallas.” Others brought up the now-infamous “Tron house,” the $3.9 million gray manse on Wateka Drive that has drawn the ire of legacy residents who hold it up as the reason these zoning changes are necessary. The changes were repeatedly referred to on Wednesday as a “tip of the cap” and “a nod of respect” to the history of the neighborhood, even though council members acknowledged the new regulations will do little to address the rising property values that attracted the city’s attention in the first place. City staff proposed changes to “soften the development styles” and address “scale and massing” to make the big homes sync better with the smaller ones. The city, in 2016, began to explore how to manage development in this community. ![]() “I want to encourage development in a responsible manner while giving a nod to the existing context and culture of the area.” This does not prevent builders from building,” said Councilman Jesse Moreno, whose District 2 includes Elm Thicket. Council’s decision also lowers the height restriction here from 30 feet to 25 allows duplexes to be built on two north-south thoroughfares, Mabel Avenue and Roper Street and limits the style of roofs on new homes to hip and gable, which require sloping edges and sides that create a triangle. The previous maximum was 45 percent, which is how most of the city’s single-family lots are zoned. The Council approved zoning changes that block new single- and multi-story homes from occupying more than 40 percent of their lots. It was the conclusion of the city’s protracted attempt at controlling the style of home that can exist in this northwest Dallas neighborhood, where old cottage-style bungalows now sit beside modern, flat-roofed, square-shaped new builds that often tower over them. The Dallas City Council on Wednesday closed the chapter on a contentious zoning battle that took nearly seven years to settle in the historically Black neighborhood of Elm Thicket/North Park. Parts of the spine12/27/2023 ![]() The spine can be divided into 4 parts: cervical, thoracic, lumber and sacral region. The purpose of the canal is to create a bony casing from the head to the lower back through which the spinal cord passes. Spinal canal is formed by the placement of single vertebral foramina one on top of the other to form a canal. The spinous process forms a steeple at the apex of the laminae, and is the part of our spine that is felt directly under the skin. The transverse processes spread out from the side of the pedicles, like wings, and help to anchor the surrounding muscle to the vertebral arch. The laminae of the vertebra can be described as a pair of flat arched bones that form a component of the vertebral arch. Two strong pedicle bones join the vertebral arch to the body of the vertebrae. The body is cylindrical in shape, strong and stable. The vertebra and discs form the spinal column from the head to the pelvis, giving symmetry and support to the body.Ī single vertebra is made up of two parts, the front portion is called the body and the back portion is referred to as the vertebral or neural arch. It is made up of bony segments called vertebra with fibrous tissue called intervertebral discs between them.
